BAKER COUNTY – (Release from the U.S. Forest Service) Attention powerboat enthusiasts. Starting at 7:00 AM March 1, 2024, we will start accepting permit reservations for Powerboats for the Snake River/Hells Canyon. All reservations are offered through the National Recreation Reservation System (NRRS) at Recreation.gov.

A permit is required to powerboat in the wild and scenic Snake River at any time of the year. In the primary season (Friday before Memorial Day through September 10th), you must apply for a permit using the powerboat reservation process summarized below. During the secondary season (September 11th through the Thursday before Memorial Day), self-issue permits are available at Hells Canyon Creek boat launch, Pittsburg Landing, and Cache Creek.

Reservations can also be made over the phone TOLL FREE (1-877-444-6777) or TDD (1-877-TDD-6777) during the following hours: 10:00 am (EST) to Midnight (EST), March 1st through October 31st.

The wild and scenic Snake River runs through Hells Canyon, North America’s deepest river gorge, and is a vast and remote region with dramatic changes in elevation, terrain, climate, and vegetation. The 31.5-mile Wild section goes from Hells Canyon Dam to Upper Pittsburg Landing and the 36-mile Scenic section goes from Upper Pittsburg Landing to mile 180.2, just above Cache Creek.
