HEPPNER – The Oregon Legislature is looking at a number of gun control bills during the current session. They range from requiring gun owners to lock up their firearms to allowing government buildings to bar admission to armed individuals with concealed carry permits.
“If you can lock your guns up, do it,” Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner) said. “It’s just smart. But with that said, I would never vote to compromise the Second Amendment. I’d never vote to take away anyone’s right.”
Smith said those are just examples of numerous bills. One would create a one-month waiting period for purchasing a gun.
“In addition, there’s legislative language out there that says only if the state police give a thumbs-up to gun ownership can you acquire a weapon,” he said.
