UNION COUNTY – Carole Smith of the Union County 4-H Extension, received the Meritorious Service Award recently at the National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals (NAE4-HYDP) Conference held in Memphis, TN. The meritorious service award is to recognize outstanding contributions to the 4-H youth development profession through leadership, program development and scholarly accomplishments. To be eligible for nomination of the award, recipients must have completed at least 15 years of employment as a 4-H professional faculty member as well as having previously been selected to receive the Distinguished Service Award (a similar award but is for those completing at least 7 years of service – there are usually two nominated from Oregon each year).
In Oregon, there can be one recipient each year recognized. Awards are given and recognized by other professionals at the annual NAE4-HYDP Conference.Carole has served as an Oregon State University 4-H Faculty member for over 22 years in various capacities, many as the local 4-H Agent servicing Union County as well as a State Specialist in Civic Engagement and International Programs.
