EASTERN OREGON – (Information provided by the Oregon Department of Transportation) Travelers can expect a few new highway construction project starting this month along highway sections in Wallowa, Union and Umatilla County. Along with dozens of other active projects in eastern Oregon, the Oregon Department of Transportation will be constructing pavement upgrades along sections of the Wallowa Lake Highway (OR82), the Weston-Elgin/Tollgate Highway (OR204) and the La Grande-Baker Highway (OR237) starting this month.
Wallowa Lake Highway (OR82): Work on OR82 begins today and includes pavement patching from milepost 49.5 at Spring Creek (east of Wallowa) to milepost 54 near the Wallowa River crossing (east of Lostine). Paving activities will run from Wednesday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Depending on weather conditions, work will be completed Saturday. Expect up to 20-minute delays with traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot cars. Please be cautious when driving through the work zone. There will be many workers immediately next to traffic.
Weston-Elgin/Tollgate Highway (OR204): Starting June 21 crews will be paving the highway between milepost 20.8 near Tollgate and 40.25 near Elgin. You should expect flaggers and pilot cars directing traffic Monday through Fridays, 7 a.m. through 5 p.m., with delays up to 20 minutes through work zones. We expect to complete the paving work by early September. This project includes chip sealing the U.S. Forest Service Morning Creek, Woodland and Andies Prairie sno-parks between late July and early August. During chip sealing operations the sno-parks will be closed.
La Grande-Baker Highway (OR237): Starting week of June 21 we will resurface the highway between milepost 20 and 23, three miles southwest of Union. Paving work will take about a week with striping to follow. Expect flaggers, pilot cars and delays up to twenty minutes.
There will typically be no work on July 5. Please slow down, pay extra attention as crews repair, and resurface damaged pavement to extend the life of the roadway… The result will be safer, smoother highways for all travelers.
ODOT and our contractor thank everyone for their patience and understanding.Where traffic is routed through or around a work zone, pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will also be provided routes through or around the work zone.
