Six livestock killed and one dog injured in recent Union/Wallowa County wolf depredations

UNION & WALLOWA COUNTIES – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has released information on investigated wolf depredations for November through December 1st, 2025. Four wolf depredations were confirmed for Northeast Oregon, two in Union County and two in Wallowa County, resulting in 6 dead livestock and a single injured livestock protection dog.
The first reported depredation from the latest confirmations was initially investigated on November 17 and occurred on a 113-acre private land pasture in the Eden Bench area of Wallowa County. A single 6-month-old calf was killed, with the Wenaha Pack being confirmed responsible. The depredation is estimated to have occurred at 1 a.m. on the day of investigation.
The second confirmed depredation (which comprised two separate events) was initially investigated on November 19 and occurred on a 125-acre private land pasture in the Jimmy Creek area of Union County. Four 8-month-old calves were killed during the two events and, though confirmed as a wolf depredation, the pack or group of wolves responsible is unknown. The two events are estimated to have occurred 24 hours and 3-5 days prior to investigation respectively.
The third confirmed depredation was initially investigated on November 22 and also occurred on a 125-acre private land pasture in the Jimmy Creek area of Union County. A single 8-month-old calf was killed and though again confirmed, the pack or group responsible is unknown. The depredation is estimated to have occurred on either November 18 or 19.
The final confirmed depredation (as of the time of writing) was initially investigated on December 1st and occurred on a private land pasture (size not listed) in the Eden Bench area of Wallowa County. A single 7-month-old livestock protection dog was injured, with the Wenaha Pack being confirmed responsible. The depredation is estimated to have occurred less than 24 hours prior to investigation.
