BAKER CITY – Thefts are and have always been a problem no matter what area you live in, but there always steps you can take to make stealing your property a little harder for thieves.

Some basic things to do include:

•Locking doors and windows

•Use timers on lights

•Secure sliding doors

•Have deadbolts installed on outside doors

•If your keys are ever lost of stolen, replace your locks immediately

•Lock up shed and other outbuildings

• Do not leave keys inside your vehicle

Keeping valuables out of site is also important when possible:

•Store lawnmowers and bicycles out of sight or locked up when possible

•Use curtains on garage and basements windows to hid what is inside

•Do not leave valuables such as electronics, purses, or wallets inside your vehicle

Other ideas:

•Keep trees and shrubs around windows and doors trimmed so they can’t be used for hiding

•Install alarms, and/or security cameras

•Use motion lights

People should also report any suspicious activity by calling the non-emergency 24-hour dispatch number, 541-523-3644 option 0. In the event of an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
