Shooting in Mitchell: Suspect in custody, victim hospitalized

MITCHELL, OR – (Release from the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office)

On 09/04/20 at 932pm, Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Nelson St, Mitchell, OR.

On arrival, deputies found a male had been shot in the torso and head with what appeared to be shot from a shotgun or handgun. The victim was life flighted to St Charles Bend.

We’ll update with the victim’s status when more information is available to us.

The suspect had fled the scene prior to deputies arrival. After hours of searching for the suspect, the suspect’s vehicle was located at the Mitchell transfer station.

A short time later the suspect was located at Cannons Tire Service. He was taken into custody without incident by Deputies from the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office as well as members of the Oregon State Police. The suspect was transported and lodged at NORCOR on Attempted Murder, Assault I, Attempted Assault I and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. With potentially more charges pending.

Names of the involved parties will be released when possible.
