JOHN DAY – Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley was in the studio last week and mentioned the Sheriff’s Office was able to secure grant funding through the state, which enabled them to buy a high-capacity generator for emergency situations:

“We’ve picked up a big generator. I think it’s a 56 kW with a big fuel tank on a trailer, and we’re going to have the ability now to potentially have some shorelines hooked up at, like, the courthouse and some different facilities. So, should there be a power outage of any extended time, we’ll be able to take that trailer around, plug it in, and power them back up.”

The Sheriff said the generator would have been ideal last summer during the Beech Creek fire, when power was shut off to the town of Long Creek for several days. The Sheriff just got the final word on the new generator last week.
