PENDLETON – The Umatilla County Budget Committee meets this morning (Thursday) to take a look at Sheriff Terry Rowan’s proposed budget for the new fiscal year. The spending plan doesn’t call for any dramatic changes.
“Our budget is shaping up pretty fair, “Rowan said. “It’s a little bit over $17 million, with current staffing levels.”
Rowan said his mission continues to be reaching a point where there are enough deputies to patrol the county 24-7, and with staff additions this current fiscal year, the county is getting closer.
The sheriff’s office has the largest budget among county departments. Rowan said that makes sense to him. “It’s reflective of Umatilla County’s desire to fulfill their main mission, which is to protect the public,” he said.
