JOHN DAY- Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley shared information with our newsroom, indicating there has been a recent uptick in mailbox package thefts in our rural areas.

In cooperation with the local U.S. Post Offices, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to check their mail on a regular basis, and to report the incident if you see anyone unauthorized going through mailboxes.

Sheriff McKinley stated that if you are a victim of mail theft, the Sheriff’s Office can enter the item as stolen as long as you have the serial number or tracking number to go with it. This will help with creating a Federal Case for the US Postal Inspectors.
