JOHN DAY – Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley swung by KJDY and News102 Studios to provide an update on multiple active wildfires burning in close proximity to Grant County. The Falls Fire is the largest, at 85,348 acres and 0% containment. Level 1, 2 and 3 evacuations are in place within Grant County. The Sheriff said the fire is very active, and can move quickly with the wind:

“Depending on which way the winds blow, it is covering a lot of country in a short amount of time. I watched it probably move five to seven miles last night…it’s moving about a mile an hour in timber when the wind is really blowing, so, that’s kind of hard to get in front of, and hard to figure out where it’s going to go.”

A public informational meeting will be held tonight at the Seneca City Hall, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
