Severe weather causes blood shortage

COLUMBIA BASIN – More than 500 blood drives have been canceled since Jan. 1, causing more than 20,000 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected. The American Red Cross is asking people in our area to step up and donate to ease the shortage.

Anyone who donates blood or platelets before Feb. 26 will receive a $20 gift card to a merchant of choice. All blood types are needed.

Umatilla County

ATHENA:9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Weston McEwen High School, 540 E. Main St.

HERMISTON:

11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Good Shepherd Medical Center, 610 N.W. 11th

10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 at First Christian Church, 775 W. Highland

9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Feb 26 at Hermiston High School, 600 S. First
