Seven wolf depredations confirmed for Wallowa and Baker Counties in October

BAKER & WALLOWA COUNTIES โ€“ The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has released information on wolf-livestock depredation investigations for October 2025. In total, seven depredations were confirmed between Wallowa and Baker counties last month, resulting in four injured and three dead livestock.

The first confirmed depredation was initially investigated on October 6 and occurred on a 1-acre private land pasture in the Eden Bench area of Wallowa County. A single ewe was injured, with the Wenaha Pack being confirmed responsible. The event is estimated to have occurred on October 4.

The second confirmed depredation was initially investigated on October 13 and occurred on an 800-acre private land pasture in the Houghton Creek area of Baker County. A single 2-month-old calf was killed and, though confirmed as a wolf depredation, the specific pack or group responsible is unknown. The event is estimated to have occurred less than 24 hours prior to investigation.

The third confirmed depredation was initially investigated on October 16 and occurred on a 20,000-acre public land allotment in the Eden Bench area of Wallowa County. A single 7-month-old-calf was killed, with the Wenaha Pack again being confirmed responsible. The event is estimated to have occurred less than 24 hours prior to investigation.

The fourth and fifth confirmed depredations (listed together in the report) were both initially investigated on October 24 and occurred on a 300-acre private land pasture in the Crystal Palace area of Baker County. A single bull was injured in the first depredation and an 8-month-old calf injured in the second, with the Keating Wolves being confirmed responsible. The events are estimated to have occurred 4 weeks and 7-12 days prior to investigation respectively.

The sixth confirmed depredation was initially investigated on October 26 and occurred on a 7,000-acre private land pasture in the Howard Creek area of Wallowa County. A single 7-month-old calf was injured, with the Wildcat Pack being confirmed responsible. The event is estimated to have occurred two weeks prior to investigation. The seventh and final depredation for the tri-county area was initially investigated on October 28 and occurred on a 200-acre private land pasture in the Buford Ridge area of Wallowa County. A single 3-month-old-calf was killed, with the Grouse Flats Pack being confirmed responsible. The event is estimated to have occurred around 12 hours prior to investigation
