JOHN DAY – Grant County Senior Citizens Advisory Council Chairman Rick LaMountain was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Wednesday to discuss efforts the group put forth for the elder population of Grant County.

LaMountain said sometimes those efforts include asking for funding from the county:

“One of our projects, not long ago, we successfully lobbied the county court for pay raises for our cooks at the county’s three senior centers, and we continue to advocate for the cooks in many other ways. Senior center cooks are really an invaluable asset to the county. They collectively prepare hundreds of meals within the space of just a few hours every week.”

LaMountain also mentioned the council came up with idea, organized, and sponsored the two Veteran’s Lunches held last year at the John Day Senior Center prior to Veteran’s Day, 2023. All veterans ate for free at these events.
