Sen. Findley introduces 2 bills for legislative session

JOHN DAY – Senator Lynn Findley of Oregon’s Senate District 30 was on KJDY’s Coffee Time recently. The Senator mentioned that he’s introduced two bills in the short legislative session that begins February 1^st. The Senator said they both deal with taxation, or “too much thereof” in his words:

“I introduced a bill that would exempt retail prescription pharmacy medicines from the Corporate Activity Tax.

The second bill is to authorize local municipalities to tax the retail sales of marijuana, IF they go out to the vote of the people through an ordinance, and the people approve it.”

Senator Findley said that retail pharmacy is “really struggling right now” and cited Bi-Mart as a recent example, which had to drop its pharmacy centers.

For the marijuana bill, the senator said that a very large percentage of retail cannabis sales in the town of Ontario are made by people who don’t live in Ontario, which, according to Sen. Findley, has an impact on the city and its infrastructure. He explained the bill would help cities offset any cost incurred from out-of-town marijuana purchasers.
