Semitrailer torn in half during November 17 crash and closure near North Powder

NORTH POWDER – On Friday, November 17, just after 2:50 a.m., a crash involving two semi trucks occurred on I-84 westbound near milepost 286, just south of North Powder. The incident resulted in a multi-hour-long closure to the westbound lanes as crews worked to clean up spilled fuel. The Oregon State Police have since released additional information on the crash and resulting damage. The official OSP media log description of the incident is as follows:

“Oregon State Police responded to an early morning crash that occurred near milepost 286 on I-84 West. A commercial motor vehicle crashed and rolled onto its side, exposing the undercarriage to oncoming traffic. A second commercial motor vehicle impacted the trailer of the first CMV that crashed, tearing the trailer in half. The second CMV came to rest down an embankment in the North Powder River. Conditions at the time of the crash were extremely foggy and below freezing temperatures. One occupant was transported by law enforcement to the hospital with minor injuries. ODOT, Union County EMS, Roadrunner Towing and SREC assisted on scene with the clean-up and recovery of the vehicles. The interstate was closed for a considerable time due to clean-up of spilled fuel and weather conditions.”
