Select Magone Lake bike trails to close due to logging activity

JOHN DAY / PRAIRIE CITY – (Press Release from the Malheur National Forest)

The Malheur National Forest is implementing temporary trail closures on Magone Lake bike trails.  

Magone Trail Closure Continuation 2026 (06-04-01-26-01) will be effective April 1, 2026, and will remain in effect until December 31, 2026, unless rescinded sooner. 

Due to the precommercial thinning operations that are planned around Magone Bike trails, for the safety of the public these trails will be closed to the public while falling activities take place.   

Bike trail and trailhead closures: 

  • #5089, Porcupine Springs  
  • #5090, Pumphouse 
  • #5091, Phlo 

Closure signs will be posted in the impacted areas, and a detailed map of the closure will be available on the Malheur National Forest website.
