UNION & WALLOWA COUNTIES – The Oregon Secretary of State’s Office published a release stating that 238 municipalities in Oregon were delinquent in filing required financial reports as of December 2025, including 5 in Union and Wallowa Counties. As written in the release:
“Under Municipal Audit Law, Oregon’s municipalities are required to submit annual reports with key financial information to the Secretary of State’s Office. For most entities, this report must be a financial audit conducted by a certified public accountant; for other, smaller entities, they may self-report expenditure information.”
Secretary of State Tobias Read was further quoted as commenting:
“While I’m glad to see some improvement in these numbers, too many municipalities still aren’t meeting their deadlines. “Oregonians rely on these financial reports to keep their local governments accountable, and they have every right to expect municipalities provide this information promptly.”
The Secretary of State’s office reports that the number of delinquent municipalities remains significantly higher than 2017 when the Audits Division initially began publishing the data, though the state has seen a drop from a reported 385 cases in May of 2025. Union and Wallowa County delinquencies are as follows:
Union County
Wallowa County
