Second Flat and Coleman Creek Fire updates as of August 7, 2026

HARNEY AND MALHEUR COUNTY-
Size: Coleman: 309, 645 acres, and 76% contained, Second Flat: 105,464 acres and 77% contained.
SECOND FLAT FIRE: Fire crews continue to run tactical patrols along the fire perimeter, concentrating on containment lines and islands of unburned fuel. No recent service calls have been reported throughout the fire area as fire line personnel focus on cold trailing and mopping up the exterior edges of the burn area.
Along the southern and northern edge of the fire, crews have begun road grading and repair, as well as water bar installation to help prevent future erosion. No smoke was reported along the eastern edge of the fire, where crews
have been concentrating on eliminating any remaining hotspots. Patrol and monitoring also continue along the Route 20 corridor to ensure prevention of any potential flare-ups.
COLEMAN CREEK FIRE: Mop up and perimeter monitoring remain key objectives for the Coleman Creek Fire. Fire crews will continue to focus on eliminating hotspots and cleaning up fire line impacts over the coming day
while validating infrared heat signatures and extinguishing hotspots.
Grading operations on access roads near Yappa Creek and Cottonwood Creek has been completed and will continue along Crowley Road. Small islands of fuel continue to consume within the perimeter and are being closely
monitored by fire personnel. No recent service calls have been placed for fire activity along the Route 20 Corridor.
WEATHER: Very dry air will continue Friday and Saturday, with single-digit humidity expected to persist each afternoon. High temperatures are expected to remain in the mid- to upper 90s, with a few spots in lower elevations seeing triple-digit heat. A heat advisory is in effect through Saturday evening due to these unusually warm temperatures. Gusty west-southwest winds are expected for both Friday and Saturday afternoon—generally 20 to 25 mph on Friday and 22 to 27 mph on Saturday, with gusts up to 30 mph possible on ridgetops.
