PENDLETON – A Seattle man was stopped for speeding at milepost 213 on Interstate 84 westbound Monday morning. When the officer performing the stop learned Ismail Dahir, 20, had an outstanding felony warrant out of Texas, Dahir took off.
Both Umatilla Tribal Police and the Oregon State Police attempted to stop the driver until Dahir lost control of his vehicle while attempting to take Exit 202 off the highway at excessive speeds. Oregon State Police reports the vehicle crossed Barnhart Road and went into a field, rolling and coming to rest on its top.
OSP reports that UTPD charged the driver with attempt to elude and reckless driving, while the state trooper arrested him for the outstanding warrant. The three passengers in Dahir’s vehicle were checked and cleared by medics and then given a ride to Denny’s by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office. Two of the passengers are 18 years old and the third is 19.
A sign and a fog post were damaged by the crash. In addition to OSP, UTPD, and UCSO, Pendleton Fire & Ambulance responded to the call.
