WALLULA – The search continues for a fisherman who went into the Walla Walla River not far from where it meets the Columbia River near Wallula Sunday evening. The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office, Walla Walla County Fire District No. 5, the Pasco Fire Department and Columbia Basin Dive Rescue all responded yesterday but were unable to locate the person who was missing.
Columbia Basin Dive Rescue went out this morning to assist WWCSO in searching and at this time the fisherman has not been located.
Currently, the temperature of the Walla Walla, Snake, and Columbia Rivers is in the lower 50s. WWCSO does not recommend anyone swim in cold waters as it takes no time at all to become hypothermic and the swimmer is unable to self-rescue.
The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information related to this incident, call Walla Walla County Dispatch at 509-527-3265.
