LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The NAIA officially announced the 2022 NAIA Women’s Volleyball All-Americans, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, Attacker of the Year, Setter of the Year and Defender of the Year awards on Friday morning. The Mountaineers had two players earn honors. Cambree Scott and Preslee Jensen both received nods. Scott was named First Team All-American, while Jensen was named an as an Honorable Mention All-American.
All of the selections are made by the All-America Committee which is comprised of first, second, third and honorable mention teams.
For Scott, All American awards have become a regular occurrence. This year’s nod is the senior’s third selection as an NAIA All-American, but it is her first ever First Team selection. She was named Second Team All-American in each of the prior two seasons.
The award comes after a prolific defensive season from the Mountaineers’ all-time block leader. Scott lead the nation in blocks by a wide margin totaling 180 blocks at a clip of 1.45 per set. Offensively as a middle hitter Scott was a consistent presence in the Mountie attack averaging 2.25 kills per set while hitting a strong .255. Along with her First Team All-American honor, Scott was also named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team at the National Tournament. It came as no surprise that Scott also earned First Team All-CCC honors in her final season as well.
Preslee Jensen earned her first All-American honor this season making the Honorable Mention list. Jensen spearheaded EOU’s offensive attack all season leading the team in kills while sharing the lead in points per set with Scott. The outside hitter averaged 2.77 kills per set while hitting .213 on the season. Defensively Jensen averaged .62 blocks per set totaling 73 on the year. Jensen, like Scott, also earned First Team All-CCC honors.
The two seniors played a massive role in the Mountaineer’s success this year leading the team to numerous program firsts. Eastern earned its first ever NAIA No. 1 ranking in the middle of the season holding the honor for four straight coach’s polls through the end of the season. The Mounties also made it to their first ever NAIA National Tournament Semifinal game in 2022 sweeping three of their first four opponents in the national tournament. Other highlights during the 2022 season included a 34-3 record, two win streaks of 15 or more, a regular season CCC Championship and a CCC Tournament Championship.
While the Mounties fell short of their ultimate goal, they put together one of the best seasons in EOU Athletics history.
