PENDLETON – Pendleton police officers responded to a report that a person left the Southgate Sinclair station without paying for merchandise Wednesday night. An employee knew the suspect and had identified him as Eddie Scott, 26, of Hermiston to Umatilla County Emergency Dispatch. Dispatch learned that Scott had an arrest warrant out from the parole board.
Less than 10 minutes after the report was filed, Pendleton police officers located Scott walking in the parking lot of the Hailey Place Apartments on Southwest 30th Street. Police Chief Chuck Byram said that the officers identified themselves and told him he was under arrest for the theft and the warrant.
“Scott resisted the officers attempts to place him in custody and, at one point, punched one of the officers in the face,” Byram wrote. “A Taser was deployed and Scott was taken into custody.”
He was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail early this morning (Thursday) on charges of third-degree theft, assaulting a public safety officer, and resisting arrest as well as the outstanding warrant.
Byram said the officer sustained an injury to his face that did not require medical treatment.
