Schoolcraft Fire stopped at 50 acres

UKIAH/DALE, OR – Over the weekend firefighters responded to the Schoolcraft Fire, burning 15 miles southwest of Ukiah. It was burning on both sides of the North Fork of the John Day River, in both the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Northeast and the Central Oregon Districts.

ODF reported that the blaze was contained at 50 acres on Sunday. The cause of the fire has not yet been officially listed, but Grant County Emergency Communications logs indicate a vehicle fire was reported on Friday near the Grant and Umatilla County lines.

Resources on the fire included the La Grande Interagency Hotshot Crew, the Oregon Youth Authority Riverbend Fire Crew, one Type 2 handcrew, air attack, two helicopters, and numerous agency engines.
