PENDLETON – The InterMountain Education Service District is getting ready for back to school with its fourth annual school safety summit. The ESD is joining with School Safety & Emergency Management to host the event at the Pendleton Convention Center on Aug. 7.
This year’s summit will focus on the best practices for relocation and reunification, the portion of an emergency response where students are evacuated from school and reunited with their families at an alternative, secure site. District administrators, school staff, regional law enforcement, bus company personnel, and emergency managers are invited to attend the free session.
“With school safety, good is simply not good enough,” IMESD Director of School Improvement Dave Williams said. “We need to do everything we can to ensure our schools are equipped and prepared to keep students and staff safe in all situations.”
School Safety & Emergency Management is part of the Oregon Department of Education. Its mission is to support the development and implementation of emergency operations plans in schools across the state. IMESD led the state by developing emergency plans for all its districts several years ago.
