LA GRANDE — (Information from the City of La Grande Police Department) School is in session again for many districts in Eastern Oregon. This means plenty of students will be moving back and forth through school zones in the mornings and late afternoons. Besides the big yellow buses, and vehicles belonging to parents, an essential part of getting students safely to and from classes each day are the crossing guards, and the La Grande Police Department would like to remind everyone to keep an eye out for them, posting on August 29:
“School is back in session and we at the LGPD love our school districts’ Crossing Guards, like Mylinda Awmiller at Central Grade School. Our Crossing Guards work hard in all weather conditions to keep kids safe during student drop-off and pick-up times. With the start of the school year, we would like to remind drivers to please obey our Crossing Guards, school crossing signs, pedestrian sidewalks and restricted parking zones when dropping off or picking up kids from school.
