LA GRANDE – (Information provided by the La Grande School District) The La Grande School District has learned of concerning posts that have been shared widely this week on the social media platform TikTok. The posts refer to threats to school safety “for every school in the United States,” on Friday, December 17, 2021.
These posts appear to be part of a national TikTok trend and did not originate in the La Grande School District. While we do not believe the threat to be credible, we are closely monitoring the situation and taking it seriously. The district has been in contact with the Union County Sheriff’s Department and the City of La Grande Police Department and we may have an increased law enforcement presence in our buildings on Friday as an added precaution.
This situation serves as an example of why it is important to avoid sharing posts online that refer to school safety threats. Even if they are not credible threats, such sharing of posts may cause stress and anxiety for our students, families, and staff. We ask our families to monitor their children’s social media activity and speak with them about proper behavior online.
If you or your child become aware of any credible threat to La Grande students or staff posted to social media or anywhere else, please notify a school immediately.
As always, thank you for your partnership as we work to ensure a safe and caring environment in which students may learn and grow.
