COVE, OR – The Cove School District held their monthly board meeting Tuesday night and voted to end their nearly 20-year contract with Mid-Co Bus Company. Beginning next school year, 2022/2023, Cove School District will assume the transportation.
Superintendent Earl Pettit said the reasoning for the district assuming their own bus service is that the board feels it can improve bus service and save money.
The Cove School District will purchase 2022 busses from Western Bus Company with the approximate price tag of $700,000 for five busses, which the district already has the funds set aside for.
A study on the district doing its own transportation service began in 2019. Pettit said, “The school district has been with Mid-Co for more than 20-years and was costing the district between $200,000 and $250,000 per year”. Pettit went on and said, “By having our own transportation service, it will save the district and the taxpayer’s money”.
