MISSION – The tradition of the Pendleton School Board of Directors meeting in November on the Umatilla Indian Reservation continues tonight (Monday) at 6 p.m. The board will meet at the Wildhorse Event Center on Wildhorse Boulevard.

Board members will hear a report from Principal Ryan Heinrich on the goals that have been set by the Nixyaawii Community School Board of Directors for the current school year. Each goal comes with a set of objectives. The goals are instructional excellence, enhance the opportunity for Tribal culture within the school environment, create a positive and trauma-informed school environment, and engage and reach out to the community.

Also on the agenda, the board will hear the annual report for the student investment account for the last school year from PSD Superintendent Kevin Headings. He will present a series of questions and answers regarding the goals of funding from the SIA. The Oregon Department of Education set markers of progress for the goals and most rank either high or firmly in place.

Administrator Matt Yoshioka will report to the board on the progress being made with the Umatilla language lessons for kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. There are 227 students at the kindergarten level at the Pendleton Early Learning Center. Washington Elementary School classes engage 78 first graders and 92 second graders.

The public is welcome at the meeting. Suggestions and comments from visitors will be taken.
