PENDLETON – Two of the defendants in the kidnapping, robbery, and assault case last month that started at the Rugged Country Lodge have entered guilty pleas. Settlement conferences have not been scheduled for the remaining two.
Anthony Haigh, who was 26 at the time of his arrest last month, of Stanfield entered guilty pleas to second-degree kidnapping, second-degree attempted assault, and second-degree robbery. He has begun serving 140 months in prison.
Tyler Schachtsick, 32, of Pendleton has agreed to plead guilty to one count of second-degree robbery and one count of second-degree kidnapping. He will be sentenced on Friday.
The two others involved in that case remain in Umatilla County Jail. They are Whitney Ann Anderson, 26 and Deva Lorraine Marthaller, 25.
In an unrelated case, Antonio Vasquez-Vargas agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was charged in the shooting death of a coworker at the Umapine Creamery in 2018. He was sentenced to serve 270 months in prison earlier today (Tuesday). Vasquez-Vargas is also the subject of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer. ICE reports that before this trip to the U.S., he had been returned to Mexico eight times.
