Scammers posing as Ontario Police Department

ONTARIO – Ontario Police are warning local residents not to fall for a scam currently in the community, where the scam callers are actually posing as personnel with the Ontario Police Sergeant. One scammer claims to be an OPD Sergeant, and another call was received regarding an Officer Woods. The scammer is telling people, “they need to come to the police department to fill out paperwork for jury duty or civil issues,” according to OPD. As of yet, no money or personal information has been requested by the scammers.

The Ontario Police Department says they will not contact people about jury duty.

OPD offers these tips for staying safe against scammers:

(From Ontario Police Dept.)

-Don’t give out personal information (Social Security numbers, birthdates, etc.).

-Don’t share your bank account or credit card information.

-Don’t trust caller ID alone—scammers can spoof official numbers.

-Don’t meet anyone you don’t know or go anywhere based solely on an unexpected phone call.
