PENDLETON – An acclaimed rodeo journalist and author will be the master of ceremonies for the Round-Up & Happy Canyon Hall of Fame’s annual inductee banquet on Sept. 11. Kendra Santos will host the induction of the 2022 class into the hall.
Santos was raised in a rodeo family and started writing about it as a teenager. She earned a journalism degree at California Polytechnic University-San Luis Obispo, where she was a member of the rodeo team. She also earned a master’s degree in business administration.
In addition to her writing, Santos worked her way up to editor and director of communications for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Her books include Roughstock: The Mud, the Blood and the Beer and Ring of Fire. She earned the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association media award in 1997 and the PRCA media award in 2004. She has covered the Pendleton Round-Up for decades.
“The Hall of Fame is honored to have someone of Kendra’s caliber and notoriety serve as the master of ceremonies for our banquet,” Board Member Mary French-West, who coordinates the banquet, said.
Four people will be inducted into the hall this year. They are Rusty Black from the early years category, Bob Forth from the Happy Canyon volunteer category, Jerome Robinson from the contract personnel category, and Randy Severe, a special nominee from the Round-Up & Happy Canyon Hall of Fame Board of Directors.
Tickets for the banquet go on sale later this month.
