SANE nurse now available for Grant County sexual assault victims

JOHN DAY – Heart of Grant County Executive Director Beth Simonsen was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Friday, and mentioned that Grant County now has a medical professional capable of collecting evidence following a sexual assault:
“A SANE nurse—a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, and they are specially tained to do a sexual assault exam, gather whatever evidence at the time, and assess for any other medical issues. We now have one available here at Blue Mountain Hospital.”
Simonsen said before we had a SANE nurse locally, victims would have to travel to an out-of-area hospital for evidence to be collected.
