Saint Alphonsus Baker City named Top 100 Critical Access Hospital for 5th year in a row

BAKER CITY – (Release by Saint Alphonsus) For the fifth year in a row, Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Baker City has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States. The distinction comes from iVantage Health Analytics and The Chartis Group Center for Rural Health.

President and Chief Nursing Officer Priscilla Lynn states, “I am incredibly proud that Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Baker City achieved this award for the fifth year in a row. This is a direct result of the daily dedication by our colleagues, physicians and clinicians to provide quality, compassionate care in our community.”

“The Top 100 program continues to illuminate strategies and innovation for delivering higher quality care and better outcomes within rural communities,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

The following from iVantage’s website explains how facilities earn this recognition and why it is so significant: “Each year, rural hospitals are analyzed through the lens of the Hospital Strength INDEX, the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance in the United States. Amidst uncertainty, transition and strain, these top

performers are excelling in managing risk, achieving higher quality, securing better outcomes, increasing patient satisfaction, and operating at a lower cost than their peers. These groups serve as a benchmark for other rural facilities as they strive to achieve similar results and provide a blueprint for successfully navigating the uncertainty of the new healthcare.”

There are over 1,300 critical access hospitals in the United States, which means Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Baker City continues to perform in the top 7% of similar hospitals throughout the country.

Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Baker City has received the accolade five years running: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
