Safety issues force closure of yellow slide at Veterans Memorial Pool

WALLA WALLA – Due to maintenance and safety issues, the yellow water slide at Veterans Memorial Pool in Walla Walla is closed for the remainder of the season.

Walla Walla Parks and Recreation Director Andy Coleman explained staff identified significant deterioration in the gel coating in a few places on the slide which could become abrasive to users.

“This issue is unrelated to the damage that was repaired earlier this season to the same slide,” Coleman said.

A new gel coat will be applied to the yellow slide, as well as to the other slide, during the off season.

Coleman expects the yellow slide to be fully repaired before the pool opens for the 2026 season.

Veterans Memorial Pool is open daily for open swim through Aug. 19 and then will be open the weekends of Aug. 23-24, 30-31 and Memorial Day. The pool will be closed beginning Sept. 2.
