PENDLETON – Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan is looking ahead. He’s turned in his first draft of a budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
“It looks like it’s going to be just a little bit above $16 million in total, and that’s without growing much,” he said.
Rowan said an increase in the state 9-1-1 tax is allowing his office to add a dispatcher. In addition he is adding to courthouse security because of the change to screening visitors on the first floor at the courthouse in Pendleton. The sheriff said he’s hoping that he ends up with more than what he’s proposing.
“There are efforts ongoing to continue to try to gain additional positions in our patrol division and in our jail, particularly in prisoner transports,” Rowan said.
