UMATILLA COUNTY – The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is joining with the Hermiston and Umatilla police departments to try and combat multiple shots-fired reports throughout the west end of the county. Sheriff Terry Rowan says they are seeking advice from others.
“We’re trying to work with our state partners and our federal partners to put an analytical report together to show how all of these incidents are connected if they are connected,” he said.
Rowan said the identities of some of those involved are already known to law enforcement. There’s just one problem. Those people don’t want to cooperate with law enforcement.
“In the state of Oregon, if you don’t want to be a victim that’s your right,” he said. “But, we can’t proceed with a criminal case unless we can identify a victim and the perpetrators that were involved in it. That makes it challenging throughout the whole process.”
