Rome Station in Malheur County closes due to medical reasons

ROME, OR — A gas station and critical supply hub in remote Malheur County has closed. Rome Station in Rome, Oregon recently made the public announcement that the closure is due to medical reasons. Rome Station’s last open day was February 28th. The station’s owners posted the news on social media, thanking their customers for 34 years of support.

The nonprofit Friends of the Owyhee organization reminds travelers to be prepared with your own supplies and fuel in the area. FOTO took to social media to state, “The closure of the Rome Station in Rome, Oregon, has created a significant ‘supply vacuum’ in one of the most remote corners of the Lower 48. For years, this was the solitary oasis for fuel, food, and water between Jordan Valley and Burns (or McDermitt to the south).”
