Rollover crash near Pilot Rock hospitalizes three

PILOT ROCK โ€“ A rollover crash on U.S. 395 Monday near Pilot Rock led to the driver being airlifted, and possible DUI charges.

At 4:53 p.m. Monday Oregon State Police (OSP) received a report of the single vehicle crash at mile marker 24 with the driver, 30-year-old Pendleton man, being ejected. The driver was being transported from the crash scene by a witness to the Pilot Rock Fire Station. At the station the driver was receiving treatment from EMS staff, and the officer observed signs of impairment. The driver was then transported by EMS to St. Anthonyโ€™s Hospital in Pendleton where staff advised OSP that his blood alcohol content was above 0.08%, before being airlifted to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington.

Two of the passengers in the vehicle were transported to St. Anthonyโ€™s. A third passenger remained on the scene of the crash and refused treatment. The passengers were a 24-year-old man from Pilot Rock, and 24-year-old man from Grangeville, Idaho, and a 28-year-old man from Portland.

Observation of the crash scene by the OSP officer revealed that the vehicle had left the roadway multiple times before rolling an unknown number of times.

Charges of DUI, reckless driving, and three counts of reckless endangering person were referred to the district attorney for consideration.
