News release from the Pendleton Center for the Arts:

PENDLETON – Rock & Roll Camp at the Pendleton Center for the Arts has become an institution in community, with this year marking the 18th summer that teens will gather to celebrate music and music-making. The week-long program kicks off Monday, August 7 and runs through Friday, August 11. Rock & Roll Camp is free for teens 13-18 years-old and the program accepts registration can be submitted at PendletonArts.org or in person at PCA.

Rock & Roll Camp was envisioned in 2006 by then grant-writer J.D. Smith and local musician Peter Walters as a way to provide a fun and engaging week of arts and music education for teens. Touring musicians from across the Northwest were enlisted to share not just their love of music but the nuts and bolts of what it takes to get new songs to the stage. Over the past almost-two-decades, teens from all over the northwest and beyond have participated.

Many Rock & Roll Campers are placed together into bands where they can learn to play an instrument or improve their current skills, work on vocals, write original music, and learn about stage presence. Other Campers are more interested in the production side of music and have an opportunity to work on sound recording and mixing. Still others work with journalists, photographers and writers to interview musicians, create social media content, and document the week. The week culminates with a concert on the 400 block of Main Street where up to 20 bands perform in under two hours.

Teens and parents can access more information and the registration form at https://pendletonarts.org/ or in person at the Pendleton Center for the Arts, 214 North Main Street.
