UNION/UMATILLA COUNTY – (Release from ODOT) Work on I-84 between Meacham and Spring Creek is set to begin again next week. This year the work will take place between MP 241.0 and MP 248.5. The first phase of the work this year will replace the EB slow lane with new concrete and the EB fast lane with new asphalt. We will be tying on to where the concrete left off last fall and taking it all the way to the Spring Creek Interchange. EB traffic will be moved over to the WB side and there will be a single lane of opposing traffic in each direction separated by orange surface mounted markers, similar to last year. The only exception will be between approximately MP 248 and MP 246 where there are currently 3 WB lanes on the steep grade. In this section, there will be 2 WB lanes to allow for passing of slow moving vehicles and 1 lane EB. There will be a couple of small areas each direction within the work zone area set aside for emergency turn outs for disabled vehicles. The EB side is expected to be completed in July with work on the WB side immediately following. The posted speed limit will again be reduced to 50 MPH through the workzone, likely starting the week of April 4. The traffic change to single lane opposing traffic is expected to occur the week of April 11.
The entire project is expected to be complete by November 1 of this year.
