EASTERN OREGON โ The Oregon Department of Transportation recently shared a few updates on construction projects across Eastern Oregon.
In Baker City, work is concluding on the U.S.30 /Hughes Street intersection overhaul. According to ODOT, work is ahead of schedule and has largely wrapped up, with crews focusing on sign installations and general cleanup this week. The intersection has been modified to give larger trucks more clearance to merge on and off U.S. 30 at Pocahontas Road and Hughes Street, while pedestrian access has been improved along U.S. 30 between L street and Boulevard Street. Residents and drivers can expect minimal disruption this week.
Between La Grande and Baker City, work is continuing on sign and sensor upgrades along a 30-mile portion of I-84. For this week, crews are working between mileposts 253 east of La Grande and 328 near Durkee. The goal of the project is installing variable speed limit signs and new sensor equipment to assist with traffic control during adverse weather or other disruptive conditions. Work is expected to be completed this September.
The ADA curb ramp upgrades project in Halfway, North Powder, and Richland has been delayed. Work is expected to begin in Halfway on September 15, with the project shutting down for the winter on October 31. Work in Richland and North Powder is tentatively scheduled to begin during spring 2026. No traffic impacts are expected for the work in Halfway at this time.
Lastly, crews are continuing to install 18 additional roadside cameras and weather stations across various Eastern Oregon highways. When brought online, the new equipment will be connected to Tripcheck and allow for additional real-time weather/road condition updates. ODOT did not specify where the cameras/sensors are specifically going, but traffic disruption is unlikely. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.
