HERMISTON – The December trial of Jaime Ubay-Farfan, 25, of Kennewick has been postponed. He is charged in the road rage shooting of the late Tracey Scott Medows of Hood River in June 2020.

Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus said the decision to delay the trial was not due to the prosecution or defense. It is an example of the demands put on the judicial system due to COVID-19.

“We can only have felony trials over in Hermiston,” he said. “When you start talking about a case such as this, it’s going to be something that takes a five-day window.”

Primus said that the Hermiston court room is the largest available, but still slows the jury selection process due to physical distancing requirements. It is, he said, a difficult calendar to juggle.

“We’re going to have to find the time that this fits in with all the other trials that we have set and all the major trials that we have set,” he said. Ubay-Farfan is being held on $4 million bail at the Umatilla County Jail.
