WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Police Department and Walla Walla Fire Department announce a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible for a series of recent arson incidents in junkyards and storage yards.

The two agencies are conducting a joint investigation into the arson incidents that have occurred over the past few months in northwest Walla Walla.

Firefighters responded just before 5 a.m. on Sept. 10 to the 1000 block of North 13th Avenue to a fire in a scrap yard. Crews immediately went to work gaining access to the fenced property and extinguishing the blaze.

About an hour later, a second fire was reported inside another scrap yard on the 1100 block of North 12th Avenue.

On Sept. 15, the Walla Walla Fire Department responded to two separate fires just before 2 a.m. at 111 George St. and 930 N. 4th Ave.

The fire on George Street was a junkyard fire threatening a residence. When crews arrived, that fire involved a residence, shop, and multiple cars. Then, firefighters dealt with the other fire on North 4th Avenue.

The cause of all the fires is undetermined but suspicious. Since Aug. 1, WWFD said six fires have occurred in this northwest area of the city.

Anyone with information related to these fires or may have seen anything suspicious near junkyards or storage yards recently can contact the non-emergency dispatch line at 509-527-1960.
