Resources contain multiple wildfires on the Malheur National Forest

JOHN DAY / PRAIRIE CITY – UPDATE: Firefighting resources have responded to multiple wildfire strikes over the weekend, according to a release from the forest. At last update, The Cougar Rock fire and Arch Rock fire are both 100% contained at .25 acre each. The Lost Spring fire near Crane Prairie Guard Station remains at approximately 20 acres, according to the latest update.

Also, the Milepost 14 fire up the Middle Fork of the John Day River as well as the Small Wall fire north of Kimberly were both contained at a tenth of an acre. Stay posted for Grant County wildfire updates.

Multiple new wildfires were reported on the Malheur National Forest during the past 24 hours.

Fire crews are actively suppressing the 20 acre Lost Spring fire that was first reported at 3:28 pm on Friday, June 23. The fire is located off the 16 road on the Prairie City Ranger District near Crane Prairie Guard Station. Resources on scene include one handcrew, three engines, and miscellaneous fire support personnel. Additional resources have been ordered. The cause is under investigation.

Two additional fires, the Cougar Rock fire and Arch Rock fire, were reported on the Blue Mountain Ranger District early this morning. Fire crews are on scene and full suppression tactics are being utilized. Each fire is approximately a quarter of an acre in size. The causes are under investigation.

Be prepared for increased fire traffic on the forest as personnel work to contain the fires. The public is reminded to always recreate responsibly.
