VANTAGE – After years of patching and filling potholes, crews are now ready to replace the entire surface across the Vantage Bridge across the Columbia River along Interstate 90.

The Washington State Department of Transportation and its contractor, Garco Construction, are building an access under the bridge in preparation for the replacement of the existing bridge deck. To minimize longer closures and delays, crews will replace the bridge deck with pre-cast concrete panels.

Now until the end of May, travelers will experience single-lane closures Monday through Friday. Beginning in late May, traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction seven days a week with the following exceptions Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July Week, and Labor Day weekend.

The Vantage Bridge was built in 1962. The last time the historic span received a major overhaul was in 1982. Construction for this project will take approximately three years, with completion anticipated in fall 2027.
