JOHN DAY – Keerins Hall on the Grant County Fairgrounds is getting a facelift. Renovations are underway on the building. Last week, the demolition crews completed their takedown, and during that work, remnants of the devastating 1964 flood has become visible on the inner siding of the building. Mud and water stains can be seen on the raw wood.

Keerins Hall also houses KJDY and News102 Studios, and the radio station was in the water as it was several feet high.

Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush reflected on the event, posting to social media:

“Recovery planning, both pre and post disaster is a key function of emergency management. We are told it can take a decade or more to fully recover from a disaster. These pictures of the [ongoing] remodel of [Keerins] Hall at the Grant County Fair Grounds bring that story to life, and then some. If you look closely at the newly exposed sides of [Keerins] Hall, you can see the mud and water stains from the 1964 flood!”
