NORTHEAST OREGON – For anyone that hunted, or at attempted to hunt, during the latter part of 2023, the deadline to report your hunts is fast approaching. Hunters have until January 31, 2024, to report all 2023 hunts from the summer, fall and early winter seasons. This applies to any hunter that purchased a 2023 tag with a season between April 1 and December 31. This deadline applies regardless of if hunters were successful in their hunts or even hunted at all.
Failure to report on time will result in a $25 dollar penalty. On Average, roughly 20 percent of hunters that purchased a previous year’s tag are charged with the penalty for failing to report their hunts according to ODFW. This penalty, as stated by ODFW, “is paid with the purchase of a hunting license two years hence. Only a single penalty is assessed, regardless of the number of tags you did not report.”
Hunters that do report on time will be entered to wing a special big game tag with privileges similar to auction and raffle tags. Three winners will be drawn each year and given the choice of deer, elk, or pronghorn in an extended season hunt. This drawing will take place in June 2024.
Hunters can report tags online or through MyODFW app. Tags can also be reported through an official ODFW License agent or in person at any ODFW office.
