GRANT COUNTY – Mt. Vernon Fire Chief Justin May was recently in KJDY Studios for an episode of Coffee Time. Chief May said while the conditions might be ideal for burning piles and debris, make sure you call it into dispatch if you’re going to put off a bunch of smoke:
“If you do anything large, especially if you already have a permit and everything, please give dispatch a call. Otherwise, make sure your chimneys are cleaned up. Anytime—especially Mt. Vernon folks—if something is bugging you about your chimney, or you think you got your wood stove too hot, please let us know. I’d much rather go out there for nothing than to go out to a fully involved structure.”
Folks planning on burning can call the Grant County Emergency Communications non-emergency line at (541) 575-0195.
