JOHN DAY – Oregon Department of Human Service’s District 14 SNAP Navigator Kyra Adair was in the studio recently, and she explained a little about a unique regional pilot project called the Stabilization and Prevention Program. She explained it as being a one-time grant for people who are experiencing something detrimental in their life, helping to smooth out those “roadblocks”:

“It’s specific to our district, so Grant, Harney and Malheur Counties.

Basically, it’s a grant for Oregonians who are receiving SNAP only. It can help cover rent, utilities, emergencies, car repairs and sometimes more, depending on what the situation is.”

Adair noted that residents who receive these grants, in addition to being SNAP members, they must also have children and a source of ongoing income. Folks needing more information about the Stabilization and Prevention Program in Grant, Harney and Malheur Counties can contact their local DHS office.
